Octon – The Ideal Autumn Holiday Destination for Families

As summer closes, France welcomes what many consider to be the most beautiful and relaxing season – autumn. The days shorten a little. The countryside is painted in vibrant and warming colours. The heat of summer dissipates as the days shorten a little. Tourist numbers reduce faster. It’s the perfect time to enjoy an Indian Summer at Country Kids, and benefit from the many reasons families choose countryside holidays in France.

The Ideal Weather for an Autumn Holiday

Before we talk about what to do and see in the autumn months at Country Kids, let’s look at the weather you should expect to enjoy.

It may have started to feel cold in the UK, and the rain may be starting to fall, but this isn’t the case in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, which benefits form an exceptional climate.

Indeed, when holidaying here during the autumn you’ll bask in an average of around 250 hours of sunshine a month in September, 180 in October, and 170 in November.

Rainfall in Octon is generally lower here than during spring and summer!

And those temperatures? Even late into November, temperatures average around 16 degrees Celsius, drifting to around 8 degrees Celsius during the night. During September and October, expect daily temperatures to sit between 25 and 20.

With so much sun, high average temperatures, and little rain, you’ll love all that Country Kids and the surrounding area have to offer.

Harvest Time – Perfect to Discover New Wines

Sounds of the harvest taking place drift gently across the countryside here. Many crops are grown, but perhaps the most exciting are the wide variety of grapes. This area is renowned for its splendid Syrah and Grenache, and now is a perfect time to visit one of this region’s tremendous wineries – while the kids are cared for, of course!

Learn how the grapes are harvested, discover the love that goes into every bottle produced, and pick up a couple of bottles of your favourite new wines.

Harvest Time – Perfect to Taste the Best of France

With fewer tourists among us, a trip to the local market is a must. A more relaxed atmosphere allows you to take your time to wander among the stalls selling a huge variety of locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables. Much of the growing here is done organically, too, so whatever you select is almost certain to be a great addition to your healthy eating diet!

It’s at this time of the year that we focus on seasonal crops to direct our in-house menus: home-cooked delights that leave you feeling fully sated, starting with our traditional cassoulet lunch on day one, during which we’ll get to know you and start to develop your week’s itinerary.

Of course, no week here is complete without a visit to one of the superb local restaurants – which we will be happy to reserve for you. With fewer visitors, you’ll have a better choice of places to eat and times to dine, too. And you can be certain that the cuisine will provide a taste of our region’s finest produce.

Autumn – Perfect to Experience the French Countryside

Sun-filled days and balmy nights are perfect for a family to get a real feel for the beauty of our countryside. The golds, crimsons, greens, and browns of our rolling fields and shaded woodlands come to life at both sides of the day.

With fewer cars on the road, now is the ideal time to take a family hike or bike ride. We’ll be happy to help you plan a route that suits your experience and fitness, and that also takes in the sights and places that you would like to experience.
